How to Save Bluesky Videos for Offline Viewing

Download Bluesky videos as MP4 files so you can watch them offline on any device, even without an internet connection.

Bluesky videos stream from the internet — once you close the app or lose your connection, the video is gone. Saving a local copy lets you watch it offline, share it without a link, or use it in a video project.

When offline saving is useful

  • Traveling with unreliable internet access
  • Archiving reference content for research
  • Saving tutorial clips for offline review
  • Keeping a local backup before a post is deleted

How to save a Bluesky video for offline use

Step 1 — Copy the post link

On desktop, click the three-dot menu on the Bluesky post and select "Copy post link." On mobile, tap the share icon and choose "Copy link."

Step 2 — Download the MP4

Open the Bluesky Video Downloader, paste the link, and click Download MP4. The file saves to your device.

Step 3 — Transfer to your offline device (if needed)

If you want to watch on a device without internet — a tablet, a TV stick, or a laptop in airplane mode — copy the MP4 file via USB, AirDrop, or a local network share.

Playing offline

The downloaded file is a standard MP4. It plays in:

  • VLC (Windows, Mac, Android, iOS)
  • QuickTime (Mac)
  • Windows Media Player
  • Any modern video editor (Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, iMovie)

Storage tips

Bluesky videos vary in size. Short clips (under 30 seconds) are usually under 20 MB. Longer videos can be 100 MB or more. Check your available storage before bulk-downloading.

Only public posts can be saved. The video quality matches what was originally uploaded — no re-encoding happens during the download.
